St Croix River | Fishing & Camping
Переглядів 11 тис.4 роки тому
We recently embarked on a paddling, fishing and camping adventure on the Saint Croix River which borders Minnesota and Wisconsin. We put the Ocean Kayaks in at Interstate Park (MN) and our take out point was Marine on St. Croix (16.1 miles downstream). In between those launches we explored the river, back waters, caught multiple different species of fish, camped one night at a primitive site, g...

For the 2019 Minnesota Fishing Opener we went out on Lake Vermilion in search of Walleyes. Our first day the fishing was slow with a lot of different areas tried. We made a change that night and casted artificials into rocky shorelines with a lot of success. We decided to try that again the next morning when a large surprise inhaled my jerkbait! In this video I meet up with a Al, a buddy of mine, to check out a small lake that neither of us have ice fished before. We didn't get to the lake until after sundown and immediately started drilling holes and looking for fish. It didn't take us too long to find an area that the fish were frequenting. We got into some nice Crappies and to our surprise some really nice Sunfish. I would really li...
Lake Vermilion Ice Fishing

Happy New Years everyone! After the craziness that is the Holidays we packed up and headed North for the cabin on Lake Vermilion (in Northern MN). I met up with my buddy Matt and his Dad across the border on a Wisconsin lake to chase down a good Crappie bite. The weather was perfect and allowed us to stay mobile & hole hop around all day. We found a good average size (10-12") and some larger fish. I started the day fishing a 4mm tungsten jig with big plastics but the fish seemed to shy away. I downsized to the smaller (3.8mm) tungsten Aku...

Mille Lacs Ice Fishing | Highs and Lows
Great review! I was looking at getting one of these but didn’t know how it holds up! I do have one question for you though. Where do you keep the reel while the rod is disassembled? Does it fit in the case?
A fellow Minnesotan here, do you still fish this area?
Is that a 600 ace you have in that sled Mitch?
Is this rod braid compatible?
LOL, that's exactly where I fish when I'm down there. Fortunately we stay at a place that's pretty much across the street from there so basically a 10 minute walk. Last time out I got 2 nice snook on the left side of the rocks. In a pounding surf too, I didn't expect to get anything but the surf didn't seem to affect fishing. Also lost two that just overpowered my set up. A guy out on the rocks said he thought they were redfish, he was up higher and could actually see them. Oh well.
It’s been many years since I was was up there. I learned to fly fish on the Conjeos, we always referred to that part of the world as God’s County !!! Thank you for sharing your adventures !!! Maybe one day I’ll get back
i have a pedal drive, would i be good to taking it upstream?
0.0 fish..lame review
Hey mate what’s the size of the roll up sleeve cheers
Where is located?
Nice any luck at these spots recently?
One could "gorilla glue" the ferrule... especially in a 5 footer ...
I got the 5'6"
I just got one... the cheapness and quality .. I had to... gorgeous rod
Ive caught a filthy pile of pike and muskies off that same rock formation 9ver the ladt 25 years.noy sure what theyre doing sitting over 55feet of water but shad or some forage must be up there holding them
Hey what size hooks were you using?
Thanks for a good honest review
Thank you for the review. I had been looking at an eagle claw rod combo and the ugly stick which is about $5 more than the eagle claw.
Great video! New sub here. I canoed that stretch before. Fished a little bit and caught a nice size smallie. Wind coming out of the south was brutal though, made it for a rough paddle downstream. Bought a kayak last year and hope to fish this stretch again this year, will definitely upload a video of it. I live in the twin cities area so lots of great spots to fish and create content. I really enjoy river fishing. Got a couple of videos on my channel if you want to check it out. Keep up the good work!
Awesome video! How come yah stopped uploading?
where in co
What lake is this at
Cool video. Is the current to strong for you to paddle up river?
Man I gotta get out to lake of the woods this winter!
No landing net mate.🤣🤣
I bought mine just out of the blue, seemed like a good deal and it was. I’ve caught everything from 3lb-4lb trout to some 26in small mouth bass without missing a beat. Definitely a great buy
I just have to give a shout out to the girl I’m the red jacket her name is shay and she was our tour guide and she was the nicest person ever to us and was amazing thanks shay
Is this on the close slu part or something? I’m trying to find exactly where this is but the main part of the river looks super wide compared to what’s in the video
Just curious, why do you wear the gloves?
Hey bud! Love the video, definitely subscribed. Whats your rod set up?.. as it seems to work well for you from the kayak
The spinning setup I was using was a 7'1" Medium X-Fast with a Shimano 2500 reel. The baitcasting setup I used most of the time for topwater was a 6'8" Medium Heavy with a Shimano Curado. Both setups had braided line.
Oh and the shore fishing setup was a 6'8" Medium X-Fast rod with a Shimano 2500 reel. Also braided line and a bottom rig. I attached some bells to the tip of the rod to help with bite detection.
Use no net for pike but one for the bass 👌
It's a pretty small net. I've netted Pike in the past and once they get around 28" they don't often fit great in that net.
i got it ML 6'6'' for Florida trip. Not the lightest rod you can get, but i love it.
Dude I hoped you enjoyed staying in Tanonka, my family’s cabin!!! I hope you especially enjoyed the stained glass fish in the kitchen that my mother made from scratch herself.
Amazing
We just bought a place on marco island. Never been there before, so I haven't fished it yet. Have done a ton of pier fishing in Florida over the years at Redington long pier (for decades before it fell apart) and the sunshine skyway pier in Tampa areas. Was all the surf water you found knee to waist deep? My dad's in his late 60s and I want to make sure I find good safe fishing for him on the regular on marco. Looks like fish off the jettys?
Congrats! I'm no expert on the area but from what I have found I would say that you can definitely find good surf fishing in knee deep to waist deep water. Depending on the tide the deepest I went was over my hips.
@@MitchBradshaw looked like you were fishing off the rock jetty? Was that by tiger tail? My folks retired to the UP in 2014. I'll be ice fishing next week! Have you gotten out on the ice yet in Wisconsin?
@@andrewblanchard4265 I haven't spent much time fishing near Tiger Tail, most of my surf fishing was done at South Beach. Nice! I got out on the ice here in MN 2 days ago. There's been ice up north for a few weeks now but finally most of the lakes around me are accessible.
@@MitchBradshaw one of these years we are going to check out lake of the woods for a few days. We thought about doing a cast and blast there in the fall for ducks and fall walleyes.
@@andrewblanchard4265 I go up there ice fishing in the winter but still have never been open water. A friend of mine did a cast and blast weekend up there this fall for the Grouse opener and that sounded like a riot. Ducks would be awesome too!
What is the case length
Awesome video! Let’s connect👍
THAT THING WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE SMOKER BUD NICE CATCH
Have you fished further north near Norway Point?
Hey Jon, good timing. I actually put in at Norway Point last Friday on a camp & paddle trip. We took out at the Hwy 70 Bridge on Sunday and camped at a site on the river a few miles north. The water was a lot lower than this time last year. I fished a swimbait and topwater on the way down and it was really slow. Only 1 smallie and then some Redhorse from the Campsite.
Mitch, I’m doing that same trip Saturday. I’m hopeful to get a few hits but given the water level I’m not too sure. I’ll drop a comment after the trip to let you know how it goes.
@@joncase9879 Nice, good luck!! I was the only one fishing in the group so I didn't fish too hard on the float down as I didn't want to lag too far behind. For me I was looking for some deepish (4-6fow) near the shoreline. Admittedly it may have been a little cold for a topwater as it was only 39-40 degree air temps when we launched. Main River water temp Friday was between 55-58 for us.
@MitchBradshawOutdoors that’s good to know. It’ll be warmer (fingers crossed) and we’ll be canoeing down. But knowing you weren’t having too much success with top water lures makes me think something more in line with a Mepps might be the way to go. But who knows 🤷🏼♂️. I’ve never fished this stretch of river though, so we’ll see how it goes.
Where do I ice fish on lake vermillion? I have a cabin there but never tried during the hard water season
Yo Mitch, where were the lake vermilion vids this year? I enjoy those...
I just realized I was actually staying in Marco Island that week
Did You catch any fish?
What launch did y’all use? I like that it’s secluded.
what was that little queef noise at 6:11
hey ik this video is quite old and you probably dont read these but if you see this if i catch a pufferfish is it bad to touch? bc i couldnt get one off of my hook
hey man, I'm from MN and this was one of a handful of times I've fished Saltwater. But from my experience these ones weren't bad to touch, the underside was where I would hold/cradle them upon release. The top and sides had the "spines" which I would try to avoid. They would always puff up and then release the air upon getting back in the water and swim off.
Mitch Bradshaw Outdoors thank you how did you unhook them I’ve had a real hassle with that
Mitch, I bought the 3/4 weight fly rod. What a hoot to fish with. Like someone said before a little paraffin wax on the ends of the pieces will cure your problem. Nice review. I would love to see it catching a fish.
That fly rod looks like a blast to fish with! My wife still loves using this Featherlight rod when we target Crappie and Sunfish back in MN. Unfortunately, it doesn't see much trout action in MN (I moved from CO to MN and there are a lot less Trout'n opportunities).
I have canoed that stretch of river many times. Never fished it before but you have inspired me to do the same trip! Great video
It's a beautiful stretch and the best part of fishing the river is you never know what you will reel in!
Seems like there's no big fish in this lake at all. I've been watching videos of it today and not seeing any lakers either. Going to try and find some lakers there this year.
28.5 nice dang eye!!
